These little darling Lipotriches phanerura boys are just waking up, ready for the mischief of the morning to begin with first light.  Males of this species will happily congregate together at night for warmth and protection, although still a solitary species.  When painting this piece, I couldn't help but be reminded of the characters of Neil, Vyvyan, and Rick, from the comedy series "The Young Ones", realising that bee boys aren't so different to human boys!  Their expressive faces and primed attitudes clutching the stem of a tiny wild plant, shows the delicate yet robust little native pollinators perfectly.
