The sassiest darlings of my garden, commonly called Blue Banded bees, two of whom are shown here all tucked up in bed for the night.  Although solitary as most native bees are, both males and females happily roost together once dusk comes, holding fast to favourite stems with their mandibles, locked on securely until the next morning.  Their territorial antics through the day, and bedtime dances of the evening, make the garden come alive during the warmer months, and we eagerly await their return each Spring.
